Start of the gardening season – Watering your garden in spring

You wonderful garden lovers – spring is here, and with it comes the time to take care of the proper watering of your garden. To keep your plants from drooping and to have a good harvest, you need plenty of water. We have gathered some tips here to accompany you through spring and summer.
Feel free to write your tips & tricks in the comments.
Especially in spring, plants, shrubs, and trees are on a growth course and need enough water and moisture to absorb nutrients. Ideally, nature now takes over the natural watering. However, the past years have shown that this is not always the case and you have to help out.
That means – turn the water back on, take the garden hose out of winter storage, and help the little protégés grow.
Basically, it can be said that:
- Native plants are generally less maintenance-intensive. They are perfectly adapted to the prevailing conditions in your own garden, which means they require less water and care. Beautiful examples of natural perennials are the Carthusian pink, meadow sage, or mountain aster.
- Water as close to the ground as possible, because this way less water is lost and the water has an easier time reaching the roots of the plants.
- Especially in spring, when you plant new plants, they need an extra portion of water afterwards. As a small rule of thumb, we recommend that the soil should be soaked with water to a depth of 20 centimeters.
- Water basically when the sun is weakest. The power of the sun is often underestimated in spring, even though it is already very strong in April. To ensure that the water penetrates deep into the soil and does not evaporate immediately, you should water your garden and plants early in the morning or in the evening, every three to four days.
- The right equipment is essential. When watering with the hose, you should make sure that it is a high-quality garden hose, preferably pressure-, temperature-, and UV-resistant, as well as free of harmful substances (phthalates). In summer, it is your daily companion, so you need to be able to rely on it.
Have a wonderful start to spring!
